Having expanded 3 times since their first opening in 1998, Murrays Pharmacy admit they will always strive to continue to improve their range of services andadapt to the changing needs of their customers whilst continuously looking athow they can improve their day to day services. This definitely confirms their mission to “keep working hard and never take any customers or business for granted”.
To those a long time in Dungarvan, it is fair to say the Murrays were not always associated with a pharmacy on Grattan Square, rather this is a family business that evolved in more recent times. Elizabeth Murray BSC Pharm MPSI graduated from Trinity College in 1998 with the desire and ambition to run her own pharmacy. Due to legislation new pharmacies were not allowed to set up anywhere they pleased and so an existing pharmacy had to be purchased to fulfil this dream in her home town. With luck and encouragement the Murrays purchased what was Hills Pharmacy known for many years in Dungarvan.
Starting small and building up is always a clever way of running a business, however when results are as dynamic and swift as what the Murrays have experienced, this is certainly exceptional. Elizabeth will be the first to say it was not all to her credit alone, but assisted greatly by her parents Patricia & Patrick Murray who between themare always at hand. In addition to this, a team of 8 competent staff are available to assist clients’ needs.
A recently added private consultation room is a useful and important asset Elizabeth Murray explains. This has added an extra dimension to healthcare at Murrays. Murrays offer a health screening process which is excellent in detecting early problems with blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. This does not replace a doctor but it may highlight a need for a visitto your GP for a particular ailment thatwould otherwise be left undetected. Other ongoing support services within the pharmacy are Weight Management and advice on all medication and pharmaceutical products.
Clients very often appreciate the extra few minutes Elizabeth will offer explaining how their medication can be managed correctly, advice she gives on side effects or any other problems which may arise. The service of individually packing medication for elderly people or anyone who cannot manage their medication is readily available.
As if it is not already evident, customer service is of highest importance to all at Murrays Pharmacy. Staff are trained to listen to what the customer has to say; very often they have great ideas. Get to know your customers if possible Elizabeth recommends, experiencing a personal service is rewarding for not only her and her team, but also for the clients of Murrays Pharmacy.
The main distinctive features of Murrays Pharmacy is that it’s a family run business which concentrates on personal service, value for moneyand continued staff training. A wealth of knowledge is at hand particularly as their staff remains consistent, so information on particular areas such as photos, cosmetics, over the counter medication and of course the dispensary is readily available should you need it.
Going deeper, Elizabeth explains they are readily available to help each individual through what may be a difficult time in their lives regarding health issues. Elizabeth is always available to give emotional support and advice that may be needed in addition to dispensing medication. This really displays the genuine interest that Elizabeth and her team have in their clients. No doubt this career comes with its challenges, but it appears from Elizabeth that the rewards outweigh the challenges time and time again. Owning your own business means many times that you may be working when most others are not, but it is this type of dedication that builds customer loyalty and develops a business. The highest reward for Murrays Pharmacy is the repeat business that occurs, when a relationship is built between customers and staff, customers will inevitably place their trust in the staff and return again and again.
The passion the Murrays have for their business is almost palpable! They are under no illusions that it is a reliable, consistentand genuine service which has taken the business to where it is today! A word of advice Elizabeth has for people in business; when you feel that you are on top of your business never slacken off, keep working as hardas you did at the very beginning!
