10 years ago, we had heard ofGoogle, mobile phones were on the increase,a single European Currency was on the cards and awareness of the environment was out there, but who ever knew of “Life or Business Coaching”????
Times certainly are changing, needs are evolving and products and services are more in tune with client requirements and demands; it’s no longer a ‘one size fits all’ prescription.
Wikipedia states that “coaching is a method of directing, instructing and training a person or group of people, with the aim to achieve some goal or develop specific skills. There are many ways to coach, types of coaching and methods to coaching. Direction may include motivational speaking. Training may include seminars, workshops, and supervised practice”.
Personal coaching is a relationship which is designed and defined in a relationship agreement between a coach and a client; it is based on the client's expressed and identified areas of interest, objectives and goals.
“Business coaching is the practice of providing support and occasional advice to an individual or group in order to help them recognise ways in which they can improve the effectiveness of their business. Business coaches work to improve leadership, employee accountability, teamwork, sales, communication, goal setting, strategic planning and more.”
Coaching is so popular these days that no doubt you have heard if it, you may have even have experienced it first hand. Coaching is so popular and effective that VHI offer an online coach to whom you can email your questions.....
(In case you were concerned the LBCAI is the Regulatory and Supervisory Body, in Ireland, that governs the profession of Life and Business Coaching. It exists to provide guidance, assistance, protect standards and to promote the Profession of Coaching and its members.)
Now let me introduce you to one a lot more local than that; Ross Barrett from RossB Lifecoaching.
Ross was inspired to learn about this approximately 4 years ago. After years of searching for a way forward in his own personal life and business life, Ross watched a dvd called “Shallow Hal”, in it was a man called Tony Robbins. Not the most intense or serious film to see, but inspiration comes in various places and manners. After the movie, Ross read Tonys’ Books, “Awaken The Giant Within” & “Unlimited Power”.Ross then felt this was the route he would like to take, and started on his Coaching journey from there. Ross believes that ‘the most successful people, athletes and business leaders have all developed partnerships with coaches or mentors over the years. Coaching works on your potential assisting you to create a clear vision, of who you want to be, and what you want to do with your life. Taking you from where you are today to where you want to be.’
To be fair, Ross Barrett has had an interesting background that finally leads him to where he is today. Upon completion of school, Ross spent a few years in seminary and university, training for the priesthood. Finding it wasn’t for him he left and spent 25 years in the hospitality industry, mainly as head chef, manager and business owner, (owning at one stage 5 gastro pubs in the UK). This experience and work history has obviously taught him a great deal about people, particularly why sometimes people fail and how to help people succeed. Ross likes to think he combines this experience with his coaching skills in serving his clients.No doubt equipped with knowledge after ten years as a business ownerthere must be volumes which can be shared to assist others.
Since gaining his coaching diploma 2007, Ross has coached a large number of business clients, through workshops, one to one and business coaching. Some of his clients include the Waterford Leadership Employment Services and Community Development Programme.
Through his Personal Coaching, Ross explains his “role as a coach is to help you clarify what it is you want, keep you focused and support you on the path to achieving your goals.” Some of the areas that he coachesin are Relationships / Divorce / Family Mediation &Communication/ Confidence & Self Esteem / Crisis Coaching / Bullying / Career Transition / Spiritual.
In addition to the Personal and Business Coaching Ross also developed The Caterer’s Coach twelve months ago. This specialises in: New Openings, Turnarounds, Hotel, Franchise, Brewery Outlet, Pub Group.Also Providing: Market Research, Branding Operations, Marketing, Budgeting, Suppliers, Training, Customer Service, Emergency Cover.
The Aim of this innovative option is to enhance a clients’ business, be it in house managed, contracted, leased, or privately owned. The Caterer’s Coach will evaluate your food offering and options and agree an action plan with an implementation process that will deliver the right result, creating a successful food operation with reduced costs. Working together, you will deliver food service solutions.
Ross Barrettfirmly believes he is separated from his competition and triumphant in his coaching career due to the fact,as Ross puts it; “I simply get results, I look for the solution, not the problem”Perhaps as Ross is also a certified personal trainer & boxing coach this instills focus and solution in his life all round. In the very near future Ross Barrett will be opening a full time gym for his club NMA Ireland, Boxing and Kick-Boxing in West Waterford(see www.nmaire.com for more info). Monthly Ross Barrett trains over 100 people from West Waterford and beyond in boxingand kick boxing. This is really something to shout about particularly as Cappoquin & Lismore never had this opportunity before 2007, and they are certainly putting their energy and money where their mouth is by committing to and enjoying their new regimes.
The most important element of customer service Ross claims is to become genuinely interested in your customer, smile, remember their name, talk in terms of your customers interest and make your customer feel important, but do it sincerely. Simple isn’t it? Yet it doesn’t always happen in businesses. It is no exaggeration that Ross lives his beliefs as he seems to embody these convictions, no doubt anyone one who has encountered him can only agree.
Obviously starting off in the seminary, working in catering for 25 years, transgressing into Coaching and establishing such a successful extra curricular activity (boxing & Kick Boxing training) his background is varied and interesting. Ross has certainly met many people along the way and heard a lot of advice. Some of the best advice Ross Barrett from Ross B Lifecoaching has ever been given was; “all you need is within you right now, ask and you shall receive”.
In turn Ross offers his own advice and advocates everyone needs to ‘conceive, believe, achieve’. If you feel you could do with some direction that you find within your self, with the help from a dynamic and focused individual then contact RossB Lifecoaching based at;
TheBusiness philosophy of RossB Lifecoachingis ‘Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW! What a Ride!’
