A new member to the Dungarvan & West Waterford Chamber; Alan Dalton Goldsmith  - to those who have not yet commissioned something;  allows the client to design a piece of jewellery which Alan creates for them. Perhaps the design is just an idea that the client cannot even sketch - this is not a disadvantage.  Since 2003 Alan has been meeting clients, speaking with them, designing jewellery from conversation and sketches until client is totally happy and the piece is commissioned. Alan offers ‘a complete bespoke jewellery service from conception and design to handcrafting and creation of your unique finished piece’.

As the jewellery is hand created,  each piece is an original! In addition to this wonderful knowledge, knowing no-one in the world will have the same item as you, Alan can transfer his skills to all types of jewellery so his range and skill is varied and guaranteed to tickle every persons fantasy in gold, platinum and silver and carefully chosen gems of highest quality. Obviously Alan offers such  a unique service that he is very much separated from the competition , but one would wonder “what competition” when Alan demonstrates a client base that has a geographical spread across  Munster and a large following of clients from Dublin,  London and as far away as Australia!Patience and skill are without doubt Alan’s greatest virtues, considering the number of years training in both Kilkenny with the Crafts Council of Ireland and then Germany to complete the training, apprenticed to a Master Goldsmith in Stuttgart. Alan is also trained as a diamond grader and so would be an expert in his field in so many areas. However it still took Alan a year of working two jobs to build up enough business (and confidence) to start up his successful venture.

Having training and transferring these skills to build a successful business are two very different things, but a task which Alan Dalton Goldsmith has accomplished with what appears to be great ease. This renowned Goldsmith suggested making a very detailed and researched business plan and keeping to it was a key factor. Also make sure everything he makes is 100% perfect so he experiences no doubts about them (Alan also offers a full guarantee with everything he makes). Alan also admits it’s massively important for him to take a break every few hours rather than risking burning out.

Inspiration struck about 10 years ago when Alan was working in my family’s jewellery shop he realised he really enjoyed working with his hands and there was no-one making jewellery in this area. Alan not only followed up this idea, but worked hard to build an enterprise and to his credit is now an expert in the jewellery industry in Ireland.
