George Mordaunt – Talks about the rise & fall and rise again of a family business

Author of “Shepherds Pie” &  MD of Family Run Business Mordaunt Group – Retail Motor Dealership

*Sponsored by Main Street

When;   Thursday 2nd February

Time;  6.30pm

Where; The Old Market House Arts Centre, Lower Main Street, Dungarvan

George Mordaunt lives in Conmel where he was born in 1967 and is now married with two children. George is MD of the Mordaunt Group (Retail Motor Dealership). During 2004 and 2007 the Mordaunt group expanded rapidly on the back of the booming car market by building and opening 4 new dealerships between Clonmel & Kilkenny. Within 12 months of completing the expansion the entire organisation started to collapse as a result of the global financial disaster.

The painful and very public demise of the  Mordaunt family business is now the subject of a new book written by George called “Shepherd’s Pie”. In the book George talks openly about how he was gripped by a fear that had the potential to destroy him, his family and his business.

Learning from the experience, George now talks publically about the next decade in business in Ireland and why creativity, decisiveness and research is the only way to pull back from the brink.

Learn how you must accept yourself and accept recession before you can fix your company/ business. George will demonstrate clearly how you can re-discover living and why you don’t need to emigrate to have a successful business.

George captures the “here and now” story in Ireland as he captures the reality of the recession for the average self-employed person, its brutal effects on their business, mental health, marriage and family life.

George talks about the fear of corporate failure, the public fallout as well as the off the record brutality applied by some Irish Banks.

George will talk to guests about his experiences, rise, fall and  hopeful rise again,  a Q&A session will be afterwards.

If you are experiencing challenges and even if you are not, the lessons George Mordaunt has learned could be a huge benefit to you and your business.

‘The Speed Show’

For The First Time in West Waterford

When; Tues 21st  February 2011 at 7pm

Where; Dungarvan Enterprise Centre, Lower Main Street,  Dungarvan

Cost; Members of Chamber & WEN; €10, non members €15

Following a number of very successful collaborations, the Dungarvan & West Waterford Chamber and the Waterford County Enterprise Board Women’s Enterprise Network (WEN) are teaming up again to deliver a new event.

‘The Speed Show’ is a presentation and speed networking event combined.

This will occur on Tuesday 21st  February in the new Enterprise Centre, Lower Main Street, Dungarvan at 7pm.

We have 5 positions available for those who wish to give a  2 minute presentation on their business or services. The lucky contenders will be chosen by lottery after placing an expression of interest.

The evening will commence with 5 x 2 minute presentations and then flow into a more traditional speed networking event.

Speed networking is an energetic means of rapidly networking with a large number of people. It’s networking with a twist, making the whole process more entertaining and far more comfortable than entering a room and trying to ‘work it’. The mechanism ensures that attendees can promote their businesses on a one-on-one basis to a number of other business people in a short space of time.

The format is quite simple; everyone who attends is seated opposite another business person, each person then gets two minutes to speak about their business. When both parties have spoken, the line moves on and each person is now speaking to someone new. The methodology is proven, speed networking events happen every night around Ireland.

‘The Speed Show’ offers business people in the county an opportunity to network, present, share business opportunities and promote their businesses to a wide pool of people.

Participants are guaranteed to leave with details of an abundance of new business contacts.

This event is open to all businesses in the county and costs €15 per person. Dungarvan Chamber and Waterford County Enterprise Board WEN members can avail of a discounted rate of €10.

Why not check it out? You have nothing to lose and a world of new contacts to gain. Booking is essential as places are limited, to book please drop an email to info@dungarvanchamber.ie or call 058 45054.

Waterford Adventure Race 2012

2012 will see the third staging of an adventure race in Waterford County. The past 2 events have gone from strength to strength and offer a very well organised professional experience for all participants. The course selected tests the mettle of all competitors eager to put their stamp on the event but is also forgiving for the sporty participant out for a days challenge. The 2012 Event is set for Saturday 19th May 2012 and will now incorporate a team relay race and a duathlon involving cycling and running.

New for 2012

Team Relay Challenge: Fancy a bit of competitive craic with three team mates (one runner/one cyclist/one kayakist/one support driver). Then it's time to get yourself organised and sign up for something a bit different. Decide amongst you who's going to do what! Male/female/mixed teams allowed. You're not really into the whole fitness thing but want to be an integral part of a team sport? Then the support driver role could be for you!

Duathlon (for individuals only): Fancy yourself as a cyclist and runner but not too gone on the whole kayaking thing? Then the duathlon could be for you. The course is probably the most picturesque route in the country. The two runs will bring you through beautiful woodland and tracks to lakes while the two cycles incorporate the stunning scenery up around the Vee and Mount Mellerary Abbey (all cycling is on tarmac roads).
